Your greatest luxury at kaKhulu Karoo will be that of arriving home, our primal home as a homosapiens living on Mother Earth. Rolling hills of semi-arid green and gold welcome you to explore the wilds – as our predecessors once did – without airs or graces, without expectations, finding shelter for the soul under the vast galaxy-lit skies of the Great Karoo.

At kaKhulu Karoo, we invite voyagers to an immersive wilderness experience in the heart of South Africa. Choose from a variety of self-catering accommodation options, from unassuming apartments to raw camping in the wild.

Our kaKhulu Karoo visitors enjoy access to book any of the exciting and indulgent activities available on the adjoining Magic Hills Private Game Reserve.

Brick and Stone Hides

Two modest brick and stone structures, with sunken floors, host the adventurous with mattresses and minimal accessories. From the sunken floors guests are able to watch passing game and flitting birdlife. Posing no threat to mammalian or feathered friends, the brick hides are a photographer’s dream.

Guests are invited to bring along their sleeping bag and personal necessities for a no-fuss stay in the eye of the African wilderness. Linen and bedding may be provided by the Magic Hills team, by prior arrangement.

Brick hide guests have access to running water and lavatory facilities. For a deeply authentic African encounter that poses the least impact on nature, there are no showers or bathrooms servicing our brick hides – an off-the-grid getaway not for the faint-hearted.
